Vučedol

Fossils of wool mammoth were found in Mohovo, which is on the way from Vukovar to Ilok, and this finding is marked with a straw sculpture of a mammoth made by Nikola Faller, and the area near the Danube is called the Mammoth valley. In Vinkovci, Professor Aleksandar Durman discovered the oldest Indo-European calendar and established that the town of Vinkovci is a settlement with the oldest tradition of continuous living in Europe. The Museum of Vučedol culture excellently interprets the birth and development of civilized living in the era of the Eneolithic. Within the Vučedol culture originates the first known saw in the world, the oldest known four-wheel wagon and production of first bronze in the world. Apart from earlier mentioned Probus, two other Roman emperors Decius, Aurelian and Maximilian were also born in Sremska Mitrovica. After establishment of tetrarchy, Sremska Mitrovica was one of the four capitals of the Roman Empire.
