A vacation in the country or in a town, a walk through the forest, navigating a river, riding a bike, fish and meat specialties, wine and beer – the selection is great and the valley magical

For some a luxury, for others everyday life. This is how in a sentence one could describe life in Srijem and Slavonia. There families still gather around the table, neighbours are treated at any occasion, dishes are prepared from fresh seasonal ingredients according to traditional recipes, bike is a favourite means of transportation for many and time has a different dimension so it may seem to you that there it passes more slowly.

A perfect invitation for contemporary passengers who want to research local communities, enjoy the autochthonous dishes and awarded wines, discover new and quieter destinations, thereby relaxing, recharging batteries and returning home full of impressions.

Idyllic

Nothing will relax you as much as the rural idyll in the surroundings of Županja, Vinkovci or Vukovar. This is an opportunity to socialise with kind hosts, see the beauty of the rural way of life, discover a new recipe, new talent or hobby such as making cakes or gardening and enjoy simplicity. A recommendation: visit the Forest Museum in Bošnjaci, take a photo beside the mammoth made of hay in Mohovo and visit the adrenaline park in Cerna. Take a walk along the wide streets (‘šorovi’), turn the pedals thorough fields and forests, along the river embankments and rediscover yourself. This is a stress free zone, ideal for a weekend trip. A few hours away, and there you are.

Urban

The heart of the town, the soul of a small place, the most beautiful in rural and urban, such are the towns of Srijem and Slavonia. In Vinkovci, enjoy a coffee on the Korzo, bird sculptures of the world famous artist Divna Merhav along the Bosut, visit the Vinkovci Municipal Museum with the oldest Indo-European Orion calendar. In Vukovar, visit the City Museum in the Eltz Castle, take a look at the city from the Water Tower, observe the street art and take a walk along the Danube and further through the baroque centre and take a rest sipping a Vukovar beer. In Županja, there is the old border house, Otok Suvara, a horse-powered mill. In Ilok, there are the most beautiful views of the historic royal town above the Danube, the Old Cellars from the 15th and 18th centuries, the Odescalchi Castle and the St. John Capistran Church. Peace and quiet – what else would you need?!
