Six Roman rulers were born in Sremska Mitrovica, in one of four capitals of the Roman Empire. Due to its seven thousand years old history it is considered one of the oldest towns in Europe.

Just like Rome, Sremska Mitrovica is situated on seven hills and in the most famous building in this town – Imperial palace (Sirmium Palatium Imperiale), five famous church councils were held and the most important conclusions on recognition of Christianity on the territory of the Roman Empire were brought there. više

There is no story of Syrmia without a story of grammar school in Sremski Karlovci. At that time the emperors from the Austrian court were very much against founding folk schools.  The then archbishops continuously sent requests to Austrian court, but without success, all until Leopold II came to the throne

The third son of Maria Theresia and the emperor Franz Stephen of Lorraine, the great duke of Tuscany, Roman-German king, Hungarian-Croatian emperor and the Czech king from the Habsburg-Lothringen dynasty changed the policy of previous emperors and decided to allow the archbishop Stefan Stratimirović the founding of grammar school in Sremski Karlovci. Thanks to the engagement of the archbishop and a reputable merchant Dimitrije Anastasijević Sabov, which gave a contribution of 20 thousand forints, the first grammar school in Serbia opened its door on November 1, 1791.

Until 90 million years ago Fruška gora was an island in the Panonian sea; today it is beautiful (and only!) mountain in Voivodina, the oldest national park in Serbia, the place that among numerous beauties, scenery and sights also hides beautiful orthodox monasteries

Once there were even 35, but due to devastation and wars, only 16 are still preserved.  Krušedol, Hopovo, Beočin, Rakovac, Velika Remeta, Bešenevo…, are just a part of an impressive list of monasteries that are listed as cultural goods of great significance for Serbia, and which are recommended for the UNESCO list of world heritage.

These are the places of special energy and spirituality. Syrmian churches, small churches and chapels in the fields, on the slopes above Danube, in the villages, simply call for contemplation. You will enjoy their beauties, stories and legends

Almost unknown to general public and they say that Our Lady heals there. What Lourdes is for France, Ilok is for Syrmia. The humble Slavonians and Syrmians do not make a show of it, they pray peacefully since 1865 when on the place of today’s chapel suddenly a spring and later that night the figure of Our Lady appeared. From that day the spring is known as „Our Lady’s water“.

Light and easy-going just like Sylvaner, attractive like Chardonnay, verified like Riesling, surprising like Merlot, unique and unusual like Traminer – such is the journey through Syrmia and Slavonia

Why not start the story of Syrmian wines with an international sort, untypical for Syrmia and Slavonia? It is a surprise to your palate, light and delightful, just as the journey through this part of Croatia. A bit unexpected, intriguing, relaxing. Just like Čobanković Green Sylvaner from 2018.
